Any Moment Now

On January 2, just one day after the New Year, demolition and renovation began in the new home my husband and I purchased. We bought the house so that my parents could live comfortably with us in a new, lower level apartment. The project, while huge, was also fraught with problems unique to hiring the exactly wrong contractor. I’m told that renovations under even the best circumstances are difficult. The circumstances within which we found ourselves were akin to putting out small fires with little more than the fearful tears they provoked. It sucked. As far back as March, my older son Ryan began asking me, jokingly at the time, if whether our house would be ready for him and his family come July. He is a college football coach and his schedule during...

The Tenerview with Peter H. Reynolds...

The thing about Peter H. Reynolds is that he’s a man of his word. One of his missions is to “make the world a more creative place” and I’ll be darned if his every artistic endeavor doesn’t attempt to do just that. His aim of fostering creativity among the masses is well documented. It was one of those awful sleepless nights. I tiptoed out of my bedroom, careful not to wake my husband, and found that familiar spot on my couch where I go when the clock reads “ungodly” and I wait for morning. I grabbed my laptop and searched through my twitter feed.  I don’t know how, but I stumbled upon author Daniel Blythe. I looked at his website and thought he’d make a good interview, so at 2:58 AM PST I sent him an email asking if he’d be interested in doing a Tenerview. Nearly an hour later, at 3:52 AM, he responded with a ‘yes’.  Who knew a sleepless night could be so productive and fortunate? The Tenerview with Ksenia Anske...

Her tweets read “I get high on new words” and “At the sunset of your life, what will you regret? The fact that you never wrote a book, never got a chance to tell your story. WRITE.” Ksenia Anske, Fanstasy Writer She’s so compelling, she’s even changed my behavior, and I’m pretty stubborn. As a writer who has a full-time job that has nothing to do with sitting for long glorious hours writing on my laptop, I have wrestled with the tension of wanting to write but having little time for writing. (Poor me!) Ksenia’s tweet was innocent enough: “If you want to be a writer, write, write every day, that’s all there is to it.” That single tweet started my new, very difficult practice of waking at 4:30 in the morning … the...
