Everybody Loves to Jump

Last night we had the privilege of hosting one of our younger son’s friends over night on this leg of his travels around the world.  After graduation, this young man took his father’s advice to get the “eff” out of here and do some traveling before settling down into his career, his day-to-day, his grown-up-and-not-a-college-student-anymore routine.  Taking his father’s advice to heart, he booked some tickets for his around the world journey—his destinations all centered around “jump sites” as his passion is sky diving. He had his first jump after making a New Year’s resolution with an older brother that they would jump together … a bucket list kind of thing.  That was was 5 years ago and he, unlike his brother who said once was enough, has been jumping ever since. Covering Ground

I’m not a photographer.  I’m not.  Not even using instagram and all of its fancy lenses do I get the false hope that photography might be something I’m good at.  My shortcomings in perspective, focus, scale and all of those others terms that I’m only vaguely familiar are readily apparent with a quick perusal of my photo gallery on my iPhone.  (That is a problem in and of itself, don’t you think?  That our phones also serve as our cameras?) I know real photographers, I am not one. In spite of my self-aware ineptitude, I still love taking pictures.  I always have. Resurrection

I’m not a green thumb … not by any means.  In spite of that, I do care for a couple of house plants who are presently living and thriving in our home, almost in defiance of my historic inadequacies.  We won’t even talk about outdoor plants, so filled with creepy crawly things that unless they water, prune, and fertilize themselves stand little to no chance of survival in my backyard or on my balcony.  And yet, I love plants. They liven an environment and contribute elements of vitality in rooms otherwise filled with inanimate and purely functional things.
